Wired News: `Bubble' fails to rock Tinseltown
But this won't be the only movie that Landmark and 2929 release day-and-date, and IFC Films has its own simultaneous release experiments starting in March.
I think it's hasty to judge an experiment by one data point.

Seems to me that 2929 wisely milked the press for the fears of change to the tune of a ton of free publicity. I suspect the next one they might rely more on traditional advertising, but they can anchor it in the recognition of the first one. Sort of seems like a succes if you look at it from that perspective.
Plus, the movie is going to make a profit for them and the filmmakers. I'm assuming the crew got paid well because I have no idea where the 1.6 miillion would have gone otherwise. And they'll probably all said and done double their money while making a movie that this filmmaker apparently really felt compelled to make.
That's like investing in a stock of a company who makes a product you really believe in and doubling your money in a year, maybe tripling it. And setting yourself up to do it again and again.
All in all... a huge success from that point of view.

Bubble isn't a blockbuster movie no matter how it gets released. To say the day and date distribution model fails because Bubble failed seems misguided.
I still can't wait for it to come out of Very Long Wait in my Netflix queue.
